Modern Fence Concept: Hedge

Walking down Deleware Street through the River Market this morning and noticed Max Kaiser's Shop sells Ranka...lasting greenery that looks great! Also known as faux boxwood, or faux ivy. More expensive than the real thing, but it's one and done. No need to trim or water this baby. Just do the quarterly rinse off with the hose to get it shinin' again!

I think it would make a fine privacy fence. Don't you?

Now I'm wondering, at the end of the day...how would it price out compared to a cedar fence. Probably more...but if I do the math I'll letcha know.

My cousin just introduced me to this lovely event space here in Kansas City. The Guild...have you been?

We got to see our friend Tyler compete in the final round of the Regional Barista Competition yesterday at The Guild.  He did a fantastic job. It has been neat for Michael and I to learn more and appreciate coffee through him. Stop by Oddly Correct and he'll brew you up a lovely cup of coffee!

Bicycle Basket: Stay-Cation

Hi there. Good morning. Ours started out quite lovely with a surprise trip to Soho Bakery from Ababayeh (If you're new here, "Ababayeh" means "Daddy" in Amharic, our son Tegegne's native language). Michael has the week off and it's been a true stay-cation. We love having him home!

Monday we enjoyed the zoo. Love that African Sky Safari. Tuesday we hit up Jarboe Pool. Wednesday we visited the model train exhibit in Union Station, then took the Skywalk to Crown Center where we checked out the Dino Exhibit, shopped at Halls, and ate D'Bronx Pizza on the Crown Center Plaza. Last night we went back to the Y for pool time and Zumba.

Michael and Adam worked on plumbing our 1st floor bathroom last night, so I must continue to design that space! That and our back deck are the next projects underway!

Kansas City-ians...Do yourself a favor and go to Soho Bakery! Just East of Broadway on 8th Street. Robin the owner, also owns the Filling Station. Her vision for Soho Bakery is awesome. Open M-F, 7am-2pm. They have delicious pastries and coffee (au lait for me!), pizza of the day, soup, and quiche for lunch.

If I was to sum up this week with one word it would be enjoy. We are truly enjoying each other.

Hope you can take time to kick back and enjoy your fam as well.

Love,

Kristyn

Fab Finds: Retro Furniture

On our way home from a fabulous St Louis weekend, we stopped at one of the famous Iman Auction's in mid-Missouri. And yes, you guessed it...we bought this mustard gold sofa + two accompanying blue swivel chairs (not pictured), the Chromcraft blue vinyl sofa set with tables, as well as a new retro dining table and 6 chairs! We scored big time!

Iman Auction happens to be my parents family-owned business which my grandfather started many moons ago. Their auctions are mostly in the Columbia and North of Columbia, mid-MO region, but at times they have auctions in Kansas City. And, check this out...my one-and-only brother, Eric Iman, holds online auctions, and will soon head to Kansas City to continue the family business in our neck of the woods!!! He and my father also do real estate!

Dear Dad,

Thanks for showing me the importance of remembering someone's name, giving a firm handshake, and being a good, honest person. When we were at your auction yesterday we noticed how the people there highly respect you. I feel so proud when I get to say I'm Ben Iman's daughter.

Love,

Kristyn

Dear Eric,

You can find humor anywhere and your laugh is so enjoyable. People love being around you. It was so neat to see how you supported Erica during her show this weekend and through her time in grad school. Good work, bro. I love being introduced as your little sister!

Love,

Kristyn

Tis the Season: For Good Books!

Who is Coming to Our House? by Joseph Slate and Ashley Wolff. Great board book...for Advent and preparing for Jesus!

The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats...We love this one...and it got a Caldacott Medal!

The Snow Globe Family by Jane O'Connor and S.D. Schinler...Cute and funny!

Stick Man by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheppler...Funny...Santa appears at the end of this book!
These are a few we've been reading lately, seasonally appropriate! If you are looking for a last minute gift for kids...go to your local bookstore! Reading is fun!

If in Kansas City, that would be The Reading Reptile. Love that place. They are so good at suggesting books!

Shopping KC: H&M

So H&M opened on the Country Club Plaza today and I heard it was the place to be. Maybe Hensley and I will check it out when Tegegne is in school next week. Zara, if you come to town I won't miss your grand opening. I'm just sayin.
